Downloading and Using a Podcatcher to Subscribe to AIRS PodCasts
We have found that a Podcatcher (sometimes called a Podcast Aggregator) works very well in managing your subscription to AIRS-LA Podcasts. They can be set up to run in the background and download the newer episodes of the Podcasts you subscribe to as they are placed on the internet. You'll never have to do this manually again! The two we recommend have two very significant qualifications - they work well and are free!
Downloading Juice
Juice is the less complex of the two. To obtain a copy, select the following link to the trusted SourceForge.net free software site to download Juice and begin the installation process.
Installing Juice
The Juice installation is pretty straightforward. Just follow the instructions of the installer program.
Setting Up Juice & Adding an AIRS Podcast Series
- Start Juice. You may have to double click on the lemon icon in the system tray at the bottom right of your screen
- Click the "Subscriptions" Tab
- Click the "Add New Feed" Button (it's the Green circle with a white plus in it)
- Copy the line beginning "http://" from near the bottom of the AIRS Podcast's page into the "URL" box
- Click on the Podcast line you just subscribed to in the box below the row of buttons and the individual episodes in the series will appear in the bottom box
- Click the "Scheduler" Button and fill in the boxes to specify the times Juice will look for and download any new podcasts
- From the Menu at the top, click "File", then "Preferences", then the "General" Tab and then use the "Browse" Button to select the folder in which Juice will download your podcasts
- At this point you may select which initial episodes you would like and download them immediately by clicking the "Check/Download Selected Feed" button (the blue circle with white triangle)
- If you close Juice, it will start automatically the next time you turn on your computer
Downloading iTunes
iTunes by Apple Computer is the 900 pound gorilla of the podcast industry. Unfortunately, it's a much larger download and is much more complex than Juice, but that's because it lets you subscribe or buy a much larger variety of entertainment. To obtain a free copy, select the following link to the Apple iTunes Store to download iTunes and begin the installation process.
Installing iTunes
The iTunes installation is also straightforward. The instructions that accompany the installer program should be enough to get you started.
Setting Up iTunes & Adding an AIRS Podcast Series
- Start iTunes by clicking on the desktop icon created by the installer.
- Make sure you are in the iTunes Store.
- Under the "Library" heading, click on "Podcasts".
- From the menu at the top of the page, select "Advanced" and then "Subscribe".
- In the box that pops up, copy the line beginning "http://" from near the bottom of the AIRS Podcast's page into the "URL" box.
- Click on the "OK" button and that's it... You are subscribed.
- Select "Show Items in a List" from the "View" button.
- Right click on the podcast title and select "Update Podcast".
- Click on the "Get" button for any episodes you desire.
- You can modify the downloading rules with the aid of the Help Menu.
